Lisa’s current writing practice focuses on the prose poetry sub-genre. Prose poetry is the chimera of poetic forms and occupies the liminal territories intersecting several literary genres including poetry, prose and non-fiction. Having published lineated, turned verse since 2002 this new prose poetry practice is a departure for Lisa and testimony to the growing UK interest in this genre-defying, paradoxical form. Lisa’s poems have appeared in a variety of UK journals including, ‘Oxford Poetry’, ‘The Interpreter’s House’ and ‘The Rialto’. ‘Gaze’ a prose poem triptych from Lisa’s current doctoral practice, was awarded first place in the 2018 Welshpool Poetry Festival competition and Lisa performs her work, solo and collaboratively around the UK. Influences range from Selima Hill, Claudia Rankin, Rosmarie Waldrop, Gillian Allnutt, Anne Sexton, Audre Lorde and Emily Dickinson to Bjork, Nina Simone, Cocteau Twins and surrealists artists and photographers. Lisa has published four books, a chapbook and has edited several anthologies. She was Poetry Editor at Mslexia Magazine and is interested in poetry in a variety of contexts. She discovered poetry after struggling to read long prose works and started to develop an interest in writing song lyrics and poetry in secondary school. As a Library & Information Assistant Lisa first encountered the collection 45 Mercy Street by Anne Sexton, the eponymous poem of which is at the heart of Lisa’s doctorate.
