Inset modules & CPD

The Poetry Fold specialises in creative writing programmes tailor-made for education and healthcare professionals, working with a variety of professional educators keen to hone their skills and do their jobs even better.

In HEIs The Poetry Fold offers bespoke services across disciplines, providing invaluable input into staff development strategies and programmes. In primary & secondary schools we work with teachers at all stages of their careers, devising bespoke CPD and training modules to help them refine and hone their own teaching and learning skills.

Inset & CPD days/modules

Each Inset or CPD module is unique and we will discuss both broad and specific aims with a client before tailoring the CPD module for your needs. The Poetry Fold has a good set of ears, keen to hear what you want to achieve; we listen then shape a CPD programme accordingly.

Getting the best out of your work practice

All CPD work is exactly that – staff training and development. Poetry Fold CPD courses are not meant for “arty”or creative people, instead they drill down into professional experience and find commonalities, divergences and innovation in practice. The emphasis is always on helping professional do what they do even better.

Poetry Fold approaches to professional development

Staff CPD sessions cover issues of Best Practice and explore professional narrative and anecdote. Experiential and theoretical issues are unpacked in open team sessions where everyone is encouraged to share, listen and create their own ways to better practice in the workplace.

* Please note we do not work with KS1.

Case Study: School of Education, Health & Community Studies, Northumbria University

The Poetry Fold has facilitated a series of creative writing modules with teaching and research staff based at the School. As part of the wider staff development strand Words Talk, The Poetry Fold was engaged to work with staff to develop teaching and research skills.

Case Study: Medical students and clinicians, Newcastle and Durham Universities

The Poetry Fold’s Lisa Matthews was a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at PEALS (Policy, Ethics and Life Sciences Research Centre) at Newcastle University, delivering the modules “Imaginative Writing” and “Novels Poetry & Medicine” to third-year medical students at both Newcastle and Durham Universities. The aim of the courses was to encourage and facilitate reflective practice for both students, teaching staff and clinicians.

What people say

“Words Talk [project] set out to develop writing skills in academic staff and we were delighted with the work from The Poetry Fold. Not only did some staff start to write for the first time but experienced authors widened their communication skills.”

— Professor Charlotte Clarke ~ Northumbria University
