Half-way point

The first intake of Strange Bedfellows is enjoying a half-term break at the half-way point of the course. It sold out quickly and had a reserve list – which is really encouraging given the amount of quality writing-based initiatives on offer in the north east region. I am starting to see that rather than being in “competition” with other writing workshops and courses, The/Poetry/Fold really does offer something different and complimentary to all the other things a writer can do with their time and money. The first group of Strange Bedfellows is made up of poets and prose writers from a variety of backgrounds at different points in their careers. They all, however, have one thing in common: they all take their writing and their professional development as writers very seriously.

Strange Bedfellows – as a concept and creative writing approach – has been a long time forming in my mind and is the result of over a decade’s teaching experience. It is truly amazing to watch it develop and I am very, very proud of it.

After the end of the current course the plan is to take a three month break to reflect and refine the processes and techniques. The course will run again in April/May 2012 and I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to put their name down as soon as possible (you can do this by emailing an expression of interest now without any obligation to take up a place – we’ll just let you know in advance when places are available). Interest in The/Poetry/Fold is gaining momentum and I have 100s of subscribers to The/Fold my free monthly e-newsletter.

All-in-all it’s proving to be a great first autumn of inspiration. Thank you again to everyone who’s supported The/Poetry/Fold with mentions in listings, newsletters and editorial and to all the writers and colleagues who’ve used their networks to create a buzz.

What people say

“The workshops are always extremely well prepared, thought provoking and imaginative both in subject content and style, with lots of time for actual writing. [Lisa Matthews, The Poetry Fold] has helped me to take my work into new territories.”
